East Hill
The area is another hugely valuable East Devon asset rich in wildlife and woodland, the East Hill strips provide pure cross-country riding, at a pace to suit anyone, fast or leisurely.
We usually meet at White Cross (Grid Reference SY113915) at the Sidmouth end of the strip where there is ample parking.
The ride can be split into two; firstly heading out to the coast along fast level wooded access track followed by lovely wooded singletrack that opens out in a superb coastal cliff vista with views looking over towards the Exe Estuary and out to sea.
To extend the ride, the second part concentrates on various wooded singletrack of varying quality and speed, often flowing and occasionally needing a degree of dexterity over the tree roots.
Other good areas to ride around East Hill:
Mutter's Moor
car park at Grid Reference SY109873.
An excellent place to take children for a fun, level, circular ride lasting just over an hour before dropping into Sidmouth for an ice-cream! Again, an area rich in rare butterflies. It is also possible to link Woodbury Common with Mutter Moor and East Hill, predominantly off-road with short interlinking road sections. A 70km charity ride Mallet's Bash is organised annually for September taking in the best of these East Devon routes.
