2011 Club trip to the Peak District
In June 2011 the club went to Edale in The Peak District for a long weekend of riding. On Friday we rode around Chatsworth and Bakewell on some of the best tracks in The White Peak. A newly opened section of The Monsall Trail - a disused railway line with some spectacular views down into Millers Dale - allowed easy access to some excellent tracks with one steep rocky descent back down to Monsall Head viaduct being particularly memorable
On the Saturday we rode from Ladybower Resevoir up the Derwent Valley and over the classic Cut Gate path to lunch at a small cafe the other side. We then returned back the same way. Another excellent ride!
On the Sunday we rode from Edale up to Hollins Cross - well some of us rode the rest like me had to walk as well - and then past Mam Tor and along Rushup Edge. More classic Peak tracks - rocky and fast. This was followed by Roych Clough which has sadly been sanitised since I first rode it. It is still great fun though. After this the day deteriorated as the weather broke and it rained. And rained. And rained. Then Chris' rear mech broke before the climb back to edale via Jacobs Ladder. That descent is hard enough anyway, let alone in the wet and with no gears at all. It was hard!!
All that remained was the long and wet journey home!
